owners need to know when they consider hiring crew.
Boating is magic; it provides us with an opportunity to enjoy quality family time, a great fishing trip with friends or an irreplaceable escape that leaves stress on the dock. For many, the pleasure of yachting is mitigated by the time and effort spent operating, managing and maintaining the boat. Soon the question arises–is it time for professional crew?
Matthew Sawyer, a self-made multimillionaire by age 23, was raised on the water and his life has always included a boat. When it came time to move to his first crewed yacht (five years and three yachts ago), he believed his business savvy would easily transfer to hiring crew and managing a small yacht. His experience has led him to bemoan the absence of a “New Owner Training School.”
