Since its release, Google Earth-a free, 3D virtual globe–has seen over 200 million downloads. Combining high-resolution satellite imagery, an easy-to-use interface and both Windows and Macintosh compatibility, it has become the defacto standard for consumer mapping. While Google’s focus has been on urban areas and dry land in general, startup software firm EarthNC Inc., headquartered in the Florida panhandle, has made a mission out of embedding quality marine information within the Google Earth experience.
