The ABC's of Home Schooling Afloat

How many times have you thought, “If we could just take the kids out of school for a year, we could take our dream cruise right now…”? Of course, you could wait until you’ve found that perfect boat, the kids are finished with college, both sets of parents are comfortably retired and there’s enough money in your 401K, but the best time to take an extended cruise may be now, with the kids, while you and they are young enough to enjoy it. So, what do you do about school?

Consider Home Schooling
We taught our two daughters living aboard our boat while we traveled along the East Coast and in the Bahamas for their entire school careers, K-12. They moved off the boat to attend college and both graduated with excellent grades; the older daughter also went on to earn her MFA degree. Both now live and work ashore, but they miss the boating lifestyle, traveling and being in the Bahamas.
