Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year

US Sailing’s 2007 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year have been announced, and the titles go to Jeff Linton of Tampa, Florida, and Sally Barkow of Nashotah, Wisconsin, respectively. Since 1961, this prestigious award has recognized, “the outstanding on-the-water competitive achievement of an individual man and woman in the calendar year just concluded.” The recipients will be honored during a luncheon February 29, 2008, at the New York Yacht Club. ...

Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race

Forty three boats set sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, racing 160-miles to the finish line in Key West Harbor during the 33rd Annual Fort Lauderdale to Key West race. John Kilroy’s 52-foot Samba Pa Ti from Los Angeles, California, grabbed what event organizers are describing as an “IRC trifecta”–he was the first to finish, first in IRC class A and first for IRC overall on corrected time. St. Maarten/St. Martin Classic Yacht Regatta

Spectators had the chance to see beautifully-restored classic yachts compete in Classic, Vintage and Classic Look classes during the 2008 St. Maarten/St. Martin Classic Yacht Regatta, taking place January 17-20. U.S. Entry Wins Rolex Sydney to Hobart

Roger Sturgeon's Rosebud team, sailing from Lauderdale Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was the overall IRC handicap winner of the 628-mile offshore Rolex Sydney to Hobart race. Roger is the first American in 30 years to win overall in the event and receive the Tattersall’s Cup trophy. Rosebud is a Transpac 65 designed by Farr Yacht Design. ...

Cruising Club of America Award

Peter M. Passano of Woolwich, Maine, received the Cruising Club of America’s prestigious Blue Water Medal. The medal rewards, “meritorious seamanship and adventure upon the sea displayed by amateur sailors.” Peter sails a home-built, 39-foot cutter Sea Bear. During the past 17 years he has sailed more than 125,000 nautical miles with this and his previous boats. ...
