On Crooked and Acklins islands, time stands still
Crooked and Acklins are the first Bahamian islands below the Tropic of Cancer. This distinction, while subtle, makes a significant difference to fishermen as northern hemisphere as sport-wrecking northern hemispherecold fronts almost always stall out by the time they reach Deadman’s Bay never infringing on glorious days of stalking bonefish or permit here.
Once you cross the 33 miles of Crooked Island Passage you’ll be entering the Bight of Acklins. Sheltered to the north by Long Cay (not to be confused with Long Island) and to the west by the Jumento Cays and Ragged Island, the wedge shaped archipelago of Long Cay, Crooked, Acklins and Castle islands surround a shallow sea fringed by barrier reefs and deep passages.
