“The owner of what became the Avid 24 came into my design office knowing that he wanted a boat that would be a cross between three things: The boat that he’d owned for many years, his ideal vision of a bass boat and some legendary small boats he’d read about. We gave him what he wanted along with a few touches of our own,” says Roger Marshall.
Supporting requirements were for a boat that could handle the chop in Barnegat Bay and Narragansett, motor at around 15 to 18 knots while cruising, look attractive and be easily tooled for production. “To me, this called for a hull with no tumblehome, but the owner had other ideas, so you see a lot of stern tumblehome,” he said....
