The inner beauty of the Bahamas is best discovered with a scuba tank strapped to your back

The Bahamas is known for its stunning turquoise blue water, yet few may realize that some of the greatest beauty in the Bahamas is found beneath these waters. Scuba divers are in on the secret, however. The marvels that lie beneath these crystalline waters–reefs, wrecks, caves, blue holes, sheer walls, and close encounters with dolphins and sharks–have been luring divers to this island nation for years.

While world class diving brings divers to the Bahamas, it’s the warm water and easy accessibility to top dive sites that keep them coming back. With water temperatures averaging a comfortable 76º to 84ºF, diving is possible year-round. There are many reputable dive outfitters that have been in the islands since the 1970s, and more new dive operators spring up every year, making it easy to rent gear, hook up with experienced guides and book trips to the best dive spots. Many marinas and resorts have their own dive operations on site, some offering quickie certification courses (though this diver recommends more thorough preparation if time permits)...
