Summertime is tournament
time in the Bahamas

For the fishing enthusiast, it is time to put the trophies in the display case, clean the ballyhoo scales from the live well and bring out the heavy tackle. Since the crystalline waters of the Bahamas teem with sought-after game fish, we suspect most fishermen will at least harbor thoughts of heading to the islands this summer. As if you need another reason to dream of tail-walking fish, we’ve rounded up a number of quality tournaments that promise fantastic shore-side activities and excellent opportunities for the ultimate thrill–a battle with Atlantic blue marlin.

Some of you may have participated in the Bacardi Rum Billfish Tournament this past March. Hosted by the Port Lucaya Marina, this event traditionally kicks off the fishing season in the Bahamas. One of the world’s most prestigious game fish series, the Bahamas Billfish Championship (BBC) kicked off the season at Treasure Cay April 13. The BBC is celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year and angler participation is at an all time high. The second leg of the BBC is at Marsh Harbour in the Abacos April 27 through May 2. A tuna tournament, specifically targeting yellowfin, will be held at the Port Lucaya Marina April 30 through May 3. ...
