New and expanding marinas bring more dockage

Winds of Change on the Gulf Coast

Strong winds have been a bane for Gulf Coast cruisers in early 2008, with periods of north winds emptying the inshore bays, tidal creeks and canals, then strong southerly blasts bringing lots of water back in–sometimes almost too much. These are good conditions for flushing the bays, not so good for enjoying them afloat.

Pensacola Crawfish Festival

New Marina at Orange Beach

Orange Beach, Alabama, has plans in the works for a new marina on Walker Street. Several layout and facility options are still being considered, but a large clubhouse and a charter boat dock are solid favorites. More details will follow here as they become available. ...

Louisiana Gets Early Start on Billfish Circuit

Now is the time to make plans to participate in the 4th Annual Cajun Canyons Billfish Classic, held out of Venice, Louisiana, May 27 through June 1. An 85-boat fleet is expected. Last year’s event gave up over $500,000 in cash and prizes. This year’s payouts range from $75,000 for the top marlin to $20,000 for the biggest wahoo. ...

megayacht show to the D.C. area

The Yacht Show at National Harbor is scheduled for June 5-8 on the Washington, D.C., waterfront. The show will feature yachts 60 feet and up, both new, brokerage and charter.
