“You’re spoiling our kids–they’re going to think fishing actually means catching,” I said as small sheepshead, snapper and even grouper kept striking the hooks that our excited 12- and 8-year-olds were dangling over the side of the center console. Peter Truslow, president of EdgeWater Boats, just laughed and handed out more bait. This abundance is an everyday occurrence for him and his kids here in the Intracoastal Waterway at New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
“There’s good fishing along the ICW, on the banks and in the inlet next to the jetties,” he said, adding that Mosquito Lagoon to the south is a huge, shallow-water hotspot. The winding creeks leading off of the ICW also are popular for night angling and shrimping. ....
