Gulf Coast Report
There’s good news with marina openings, bad news in a shortened snapper season
Fishermen going after snapper along the Gulf Coast this summer will see a shortened season and cut backs in bag limits. The recreational fishing season for red snapper in Gulf of Mexico waters that fall under the jurisdiction of NOAA Fisheries opens June 1, and closes the last day of September. Previously the season ran from April 15 to October 31. The daily bag and possession limit will be cut from four fish per angler per day to two fish, still with a 16-inch minimum fork length. The captain and crew of recreational-for-hire fishing vessels will no longer be allowed to keep a limit of fish for themselves or to donate to their customers.
