July Brings Hot Weather and Hot Fishing Along the Gulf

July begins the season of both the warmest weather and the hottest fishing on the Gulf Coast, and this has not been lost on tournament organizers. Also a big part of events this month are Independence Day celebrations. Fireworks displays on and over the water in places such as Clear Lake, Texas, will see so many vessels moored in the water that the whole lake will seem to be crossable by simply boat hopping. Generally our winds begin to die down after the 4th, tough for sailors but good for offshore fishermen and passage makers. Of course, the weather has not held strictly to pattern over the last several years, but Gulf Coast residents are used to that. If you don’t like the weather now, just wait a bit, it will surely change. ...

Independence Day Events

Coastal and inshore sites across the Mid-Atlantic will see fireworks bursting in air as we celebrate our independence from Great Britain on July 4. Urbanna, Virginia, will host its annual 4th of July Boat Parade and Fireworks at Upton’s Point Marina. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., decorated boats parade down Urbanna Creek from the bridge, past Upton’s Point Marina, to Queen Anne’s Cove and back again. ...


New Weather Portal
for the Carolinas

The Carolinas Coast Marine Web Portal, a new experimental Web site that integrates real-time marine data from nine major providers, has been launched by NOAA’s National Weather Service. The site’s URL is weather.gov/carolinascoast and it presents a virtual gateway for yachtsmen to access a variety of real-time marine observations, hazards and forecasts along the Carolina coastline neatly packaged on one site with easy to navigate buttons and instructions. ...

Get Ready for Marlin

The White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Maryland, held annually since 1974, has awarded millions of dollars in prize money to anglers of all skill levels. During last summer’s tournament, 428 boats competed for more than $3.1 million in prize money with over $1.5 million awarded for the top white marlin. The top angler last year was Jack Holz who reeled in an 82-pounder aboard True Grit. ...

Watersports Action

It wouldn’t be summer without wakeboarding. New to the BROstock locations in 2007 is Smith Mountain Lake in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The fun begins August 10 and runs through the August 12. Liquid Force and Alliance Wakeboard will present some of the industry’s most well-known wakeboarding professionals, newest products and exhibitions. ...
