Cobra Strikes Again
From CB to marine VHF and back again,
these new radios go from wet to wild.
Cobra Electronics, originally founded as a TV repair business called B&K Electronics, has been producing communications products for more than 40 years. Based in America’s heartland, it developed the world’s first Citizen’s Band radio, or CB, the Sidewinder, used by farmers and service providers in rural areas. A second product, the Cobra, was introduced as CBs swept the trucking industry and eventually became the company’s brand name. Radar detectors, two-way Family Radio Service (FRS) radios and power inverters followed. Five years ago the Chicago-based company decided to launch a line of products aimed at the recreational marine market by looking at gaps in the product array. So far, the strategy appears to be paying off. According to Bill Boudreau, Cobra’s Marine Products Manager, sales of Cobra’s marine line are growing at double-digit rates in 2008, despite the overall industry downturn. ...
