Go Fly a Kite

Learn this technique and increase your chances of sailfish success

Kite fishing has become one of the most widely adopted techniques when fishing for sailfish, and for good reason. When an angler uses a kite rig, there are two significant advantages. The first is that the kite keeps a bait swimming at or near the surface of the water, and it gives the appearance that the bait is distressed, which is almost irresistible to predators. Although kite fishing was primarily developed for fishing for sailfish, dolphin and tuna, I find that kites are also extremely effective for baiting marlin, king mackerel, tarpon, and sharks. To tell the truth, there are very few predator fish that can resist the urge to come after a live bait swimming and thrashing at the water’s surface.
The other advantage to using a kite rig is its effect on the spread. Each kite rig will allow you to fish with three baits, place them farther away from the boat and spread them out more than other techniques. Spreading your bait increases your chances. ...
