Insurance Boat Ride
I just received my yacht insurance policy renewal notice in the mail. The premium rose 64.2 percent and the windstorm deductible went from 10 percent to 15 percent!
Last year I thought the increase to a 10 percent deductible was absurd, but I was convinced that all of the insurers were doing it. Am I the only one on this insurance "boat ride?” If not, then this sounds like just one more nail in Florida's coffin of blunders.

Ed. Note: That’s some sticker shock! Unfortunately, due to recent weather patterns insurance costs are rising all along our cruising coasts. Shopping around is still your best bet, and make sure your insurance coverage is tailored to your boat use. After all, living and playing in paradise does not come without a price.
Fishing Like the Pros
I just wanted to let you know that I greatly enjoyed the article on the BXRL sportfishing tournament. I have watched the show on ESPN2 and it was great to meet some of the personalities competing for the million dollar prize.
I am also in the idea/planning stages of commissioning my own hardcore battlewagon and the insight gained from these professionals will definitely influence the choices I make going forward. Who knows, maybe you’ll see me reeling in a massive blue on TV one day.

Something for the Ladies
My husband just subscribed to Southern Boating and I am so pleased to see that the articles that appear in your magazine appeal to more than just male readers.
I greatly enjoyed reading the Useppa Island story, that gorgeous banyan tree photo brings back lots of memories of my childhood.
After I read this very interesting story, which was loaded with really useful information for boaters, my husband and I are making plans to take our boat there for a cruise, and we plan to call the club and check on a membership.

So it doesn’t all end at the
Southernmost buoy?
I must make a confession: I am a lifelong Floridian and had no idea about the Dry Tortugas. I have been to Key West several times and thought it was the end of the line for that great island chain.
Now that I know there is more, and that it is so easily accessible, I can’t wait to explore the Dry Tortugas for myself. I consider myself a sort of history buff and a Civil War-era fort is right up my alley. Thanks for bringing this fascinating piece of Florida history to my attention and allowing me to discover new parts of my home state.

Cool Days Ahead
I just signed up for another three years of your great magazine. You did an article on “installing (water) misters on your boat” in the past year. Could you please tell me where I could get a copy of it? Thank you.

Ed. Note: Ted, your memory is better than you give it credit for. The article you are referring to was a Weekend Workshop all the way back in the June 2004 issue. We’ll send the story your way, and good luck with the install. It’s a great way to keep your deck cool any time of the year.
