Thirty years ago, the late Tom Fexas turned heads with a retro-inspired, black-hulled beauty called Midnight Lace, reminiscent of commuter yachts and World War II PT boats. Today, his legacy lives on in the just-launched fourth generation of the build with Zorro, sure to garner as much attention as her predecessors.
Incorporating high-end features befitting a much larger yacht, the new Midnight Lace model is designed for the owner looking to step down to a smaller vessel without giving up any of the comfort and style they have become accustomed to with larger yachts. Mike Joyce, chairman and CEO of Hargrave Custom Yachts, distributor of Midnight Lace, noticed a trend with yacht owners in the 70- to 100-foot range who were trying to move down to something more manageable and not requiring crew. “When they looked at a boat in the 50-foot range, what they saw wasn’t what they wanted; it was too much like what they had when they were starting out in boating,” Mike says. “Most people are always moving up in size, and we’re designing this boat for somebody moving down who brings all of their expectations with them.” ...
