Alinghi Successfully Defends
32nd America’s Cup

In the closest America’s Cup win since Australia II's comeback against the American boat Liberty in 1983, the Swiss team Alinghi successfully defended its hold on the Cup by a best of seven series score of 5-2 over Emirates Team New Zealand. As the winner decides the rules, venue and timing for the next race, Alinghi founder Ernesto Bertarelli has announced that a new class of 90-foot boats will be sailed in the 33rd America’s Cup. Objections to the change in protocol have already been filed, but the first casualty is Louis Vuitton, which after 25 years announced it will no longer sponsor the challenger series. The final design rule and venue will be named by December 31, 2007. ...
