A new tracking system utilizes existing technology
in a novel way to keep an eye on tenders and toys.
While at the present time the U.S. Coast Guard only requires commercial vessels over 65 feet–or those of any size operating internationally–to be fitted with Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders, I would bet there is at least a 50-50 chance that someday everyone with a motorized vessel of a certain size will be required to broadcast vessel information and all the course, speed and destination data that goes with it in an effort to, A) avoid collisions on the waterways, and B) satisfy Homeland Security. ...
