Areas of the coast around Port O’Connor, Rockport and Corpus Christi were hit especially hard, but flooding along the Brazos and Trinity Rivers caused serious problems for Galveston and Freeport as well. Fishing in the Galveston Bay system was almost a total wash out, pardon the pun, and the muddy waters were not conducive to safe and enjoyable boating. ...

Final “Smart Buoy” Touches Down
The third “smart buoy” deployed as part of the newly established Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail touched down into the Patapsco River near Baltimore on July 26. Three buoys were launched this year to help mark the first National Historic Water Trail. The first buoy was placed off Jamestown, Virginia, in May for America’s 400th Anniversary celebration.
