It was a blissfully hot summer day in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when I pulled into the Pier 66 Marina to get a firsthand look at the Africat 420. Thankfully, the skies were clear as South Florida’s usual afternoon thunderstorms remained to the west over the Everglades. Picking this beast out of the crowd at the marina was easy. Her customary catamaran profile was the first hint I had spotted my quarry; confirmation came when I noticed Africat’s cool leopard logo emblazoned on the flybridge. I boarded the boat and was greeted by Africat’s director of sales, Stuart Hegerstrom, who would be my guide.
